Camp Kesem

My alter ego "Putt Putt" at Camp KesemCamp Kesem is a free one-week camp for kids whose parents have or have had cancer that is run entirely by college student volunteers. I worked with Camp Kesem North Carolina, which is run by Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill students, from the summer after my freshman year until the summer after I graduated. It is by far the best thing that I’ve done not only in college, but in my life so far.

I served on the executive board from 2009-2012, creating and transitioning to the role of PR Coordinator in 2011 when I saw the need for it. In addition to creating content and contacting the media to stimulate press coverage, I managed the newsletter and social media accounts throughout the year to keep in touch with campers and parents. I was also the unofficial photographer for Camp Kesem. During the week of camp, I documented activities and updated the “at camp” blog so parents knew what we were up to.
